Aquaponics Fish Farm at Ironbark Grange

« back to Projects

The fish farm has been running since April 2015. The build was difficult, given the confined space and the size of the system. The main sump (large pond) is approximately 10,000 litres. The four main fish tanks that are above ground are 2,000 litres each, with 150 litre fingerling tank above the main tanks. In addition, there are six grow beds in the bush house using the same water to grow plants. These grow beds use LECA (light expanded clay aggregate) as the grow bed media to hold the roots. At present we have growing in the tanks Barramundi, Jade Perch, Silver Perch, Eel Tailed Catfish, Murray Cod and Sleepy Cod. The sump also has a resident population of Redclaw yabbies. The pictures below show the construction of the system.
