Our garden is below our house and is a major part of the view from our deck. It was started back in 1998 with simple wooden railway sleepers to form the beds. With 12 beds, we rotated the beds each year to avoid disease. In 2009, we remade the beds using sandstone retaining wall blocks (identical to the house) so that they were raised much more providing a much better working height and an elegant seat as well. Drainage was enhanced by agricultural pipes that fed the waste water to blue berries in front of the beds. Twenty beds were constructed in all with the original soil, which was very good enhanced with mushroom compost. An irrigation system was incorporated into the beds during construction. We take great pleasure in looking down on our garden and literally seeing the fruits of our labour.
